Roman Villa Rustica at the village of Suhache, Cherven Bryag municipality, Pleven District

14.02.2006
In 2005 Sonya Lazarova from VIM-Pleven excavated the site at the Selishteto locality, west of the village of Suchache. Dr. Gergana Kabakchieva from IAM-BAS acted as excavations’ consultant. The excavations aimed at establishing the nature of habitation in the valley and whether it was a Roman village or a Villa Rustica. It was established that the excavated building has been the house of the owner of a Roman Villa Rustica dating from the second half of 3rd to 4th century AD. The latest coins belong to the Emperors Valens and Valentinian and date to the third quarter of 4th century AD. The building has been burnt in the second Gothic war (376-378 AD).
