Exhibition of cultural valuables donated by the National Endowment Fund "13 Centuries Bulgaria"
On December 3, 2013 the National Institute of Archaeology with Museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences received a generous donation from the National Endowment Fund "13 Centuries Bulgaria", namely 17 tetradrachms of Patraios of Paeonia.
These rare silver coins dated at the second half of the 4th century BC are a valuable source for the history of Thrace during the Hellenistic period.
Their significance is determined by the fact that the coins minted with the name of Patraios are the only source of information for the Paeonian ruler as the written sources of that age do not contain any data about him.
The good state of preservation of the tetradrachms also defines them as outstanding examples of the miniature antique sculpture.
The exhibition of the donated cultural valuables will be opened on December 12, 2013 at 11:00 in the Vault Hall of the National Archaeological Museum.
