Conference in memory of Václav Dobruský

2016 marks 100 years since the death of Václav Dobruský (11 August 1858 – 24 December 1916), the first director of the National Archaeological Museum and the first lecturer in classic archaeology, classical philology, epigraphy and numismatics at the Sofia University.

Recognizing the immeasurable contributions of V. Dobruský in studying the Bulgarian antiquities and laying the foundations of the Bulgarian archaeological scholarship, the National Archaeological Institute with Museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the Department of Classical philology at the “St. Kliment Ohridski” Sofia University organize a conference that will be held on 18 and 19 November 2016 in Sofia. The thematic themes of the conference conform to the vast field of research opened up by V. Dobruský: classic archaeology, ancient culture and religion, epigraphy and numismatics.

The Conference Proceedings will be published in the Annual of the National Archaeological Museum. For more details, see the invitation.
