Official opening of the poster exhibition “Greece – Bulgaria: Bridges of culture for progress and sustainability”

In October 2018, the National Archaeological Institute with Museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences is pleased to present to all residents and guests of Sofia the poster exhibition “Greece – Bulgaria: Bridges of culture for progress and sustainability”. The exhibition is organized by the General Directorate of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage at the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Hellenic Republic and the Embassy of Greece in Sofia, in collaboration with of the National Archaeological Institute with Museum.

The exhibition includes 11 posters illustrating various aspects of cooperation between the two countries in recent decades in the field of cultural and historical heritage: archaeological excavations and research, and promotion of archaeological heritage and cultural monuments on both sides of the border. It also outlines future opportunities for cooperation in the field of archaeology and preservation of cultural heritage in both countries. The exhibition is divided into five sections: Prehistory, Antiquity, Thessaloniki metro, Middle Ages – Byzantium and Modern Times. They represent the activities of the two countries aimed at implementing a number of joint projects, including the collaborative project between Greece and Bulgaria titled “Black Sea – Unity and Diversity in the Roman Antiquity, the exhibition Leaving a Mark on History. Treasures from Greek Museums” displayed in the National Archaeological Museum in 2013-2014, the joint Greek-Bulgarian project “Roman Monuments in the Struma Valley commenced in 2002, many scientific conferences, archaeological excavations and projects for conservation and restoration of artefacts, as well as sharing experience regarding preservation and public exhibition of finds discovered throughout the process of construction of the Thessaloniki metro and the Sofia metro.

The exhibition can be seen from 5 to 28 October 2018 in the Central Hall of the National Archaeological Museum.
