Exhibit of April 2023: Measuring cup
A measuring cup, "Italian sextarius", was discovered during rescue archaeological excavations in 2022 at the village of Aldomirovtsi, Slivnitsa Municipality. It serves for measuring bulk products (wheat and flour) and has a volume of about 700 ml. A Latin inscription is engraved on the upper and lower parts of the cup. It informs us about the name of the Serdica chief magistrate who issued the official measure. The cup dates back to the third quarter of the 4th century.
The exhibit is part of the temporary exhibition Bulgarian archaeology 2022 and is on display in the Temporary exhibitions Hall of NAIM until May 21st, 2023.
