A diploma for active support of the “Preserve the Bulgarian 2006” Campaign
On 1 November, 2006, the employees of the Institute of Archaeology and Museum at BAS were rewarded a diploma by the Bulgarian National Heritage Movement. This diploma honors their active support to the “Preserve the Bulgarian 2006” Campaign carried out under the patronage of President Parvanov.
The movement is actively involved with the cultural heritage preservation and its use in the system of the culture tourism.
It is the second campaign’s season and it turns into a national movement. One of its goals is fundraising to attract the government’s and local authorities’ attention to the cultural heritage preservation. Pupils and students founded clubs and volunteer brigades; they cleaned the territory of archaeological sites in order to open them for visitors. Series of lectures on the culture and historical heritage and visits to sites were organized at all sites which had been cleaned. This provided possibility to clean monuments not only at Pliska, Preslav, Veliko Tarnovo and Zhelezni vrata but also at Deultum and Trapezitsa.
Two conventions of the participants in the archaeological excavations were held; at Zhelezni vrata in August and in the National Palace of Culture on November 1, 2006.
